time out: the history of the hipster

Check out this article from Time Magazine online chronicling the history of the hipster. Amy and I just read it over coffee as we gear up to leave for All Points West, and we were cracking up!!! Take a few minutes to read the entire article--it will be so worth it if you understand what it means to be a hipster. Okay kids, time to make pb&j and apply the sunscreen. Leaving for All Points West in t-minus 18 minutes!

gala at apw!

Gala Darling is going to be at All Points West this weekend! Soo exciting! My friends and I have been obsessed with her blog for years now as we love her optimistic view of the world and her suggestions for fun, girly, self-indulgent activities. I'll definitely be looking out for a skinny chick with pink hair all weekend. Can't wait to post pictures from APW! I just might be debuting the heart sunglasses that I finally ordered from Urban...

employer news: party, rag & bone style

Last night, rag & bone hosted a party with Intermix to celebrate the upscale boutique now carrying its Fall 2009 line--and it looked like a blast! Unfortunately, I can't give you a first-hand account of the festivities as we interns did not go to the event, but here is an awesome look at the party from Refinery29.

alice 2010

Here is the trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland-- so exciting! As lover of tea parties (duh) and trippy imagery, Alice in Wonderland is obviously one of my favorite classic stories, and the 1999 movie version with Whoopi Goldberg as the Cheshire Cat is one of my all-time favorite films. The movie comes out March 5th (Allison's Birthday!), so until then, we can just watch the trailer a million times.

you'll never be bored again!

We all know that New York is the city that never sleeps and that there is ALWAYS something to do around here. However, all to often, we know much is happening, we are just not sure what those things are. Enter Flavorpill, a website created to ensure that you never again spend another night wondering what to do. Concentrating mostly on art, music and film, this site will keep you up-to-date on what's going on and when. Not from New York? Flavorpill also has guides for Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami and London! Pretty sweet, huh? Guess Alex and I shouldn't have any trouble trying to figure out what to do when we're in LA in two weeks!

Paris Je T'aime

As I've been editing my application for BU's Spring Paris Internship Program, I've been fantasizing about what it could be like to spend 5 months in that splendid city. A single gal exploring the wonders of the City of Lights. What could be more fabulous than that? And to blog from Paris?! The shopping! The food! The sights! The music! I can't imagine anything more wonderful.

I found a list of all of the food markets in Paris on Chocolate & Zucchini. I can't wait to check them out! I will definitely be frequenting this French food blog for hints and tips on eating my way through Paris. I can smell the quiche and French Onion Soup Gratinee now!

I'll probably be posting some Paris to-do lists on the Neon Tea Party between now and January just to keep myself organized and satisfy my excitement, so keep an eye out for them!

If anyone has spent significant time in Paris and can offer me any advice of what to do, where to shop and what to eat, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm sure I'll make plenty of amazing discoveries, but pre-trip suggestions never hurt!

Peace, Love and Neon,
Marisa

P.S. I am currently listening to French Café Radio on Pandora and drinking a glass of vin rouge. Gotta prep for the good life!

Sea of Shoes in Vogue!!

Yay Jane Aldridge and her mama Judy in August Vogue!

Heart Sunglasses (pt. 2) and the sartorial couple in action

Remember two months ago when I posted my desire to purchase a pair of heart-shapped sunglasses? Well I've yet to do so, but this photo from Garance Doré has reignited this desire-hard core.

I love that they are basic black and can match everything, regardless of their kitschy shape. I will definitely be hunting for a pair of these when I am in Boston this weekend!

Speaking of our favorite photographer couple, check out "How to get shot by the Sartorialist" from Refinery29. So funny and so true! Also, look out for The Sartorialist: The Book, coming out in the States on August 12. Best coffee table book since the Olsens' book, in my opinion.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Prada Romper

After spending an amazing 4th of July weekend in Cape Cod, I headed back to Boston with my friends for a few days before returning to the real world in NYC. While the beach, partying at Jess' Cape house, Marion's Pie Shop, Glenn's candle share and exploring flamboyant Provincetown were definite highlights of the weekend, more exciting was Jess' Second Time Around purchase: a silk kiss print and navy silk short romper by PRADA! She and I spent a good 15 minute debating which of us should buy it, if we should split the cost and share it, or work out some other deal. We settled on her buying it and lending it to me when she comes to visit me in Paris in the spring. I'll take that!

In honor of the wonderous purchase, we obviously had a photo shoot in the romper. Jess even paired it with her brown leather Prada wedges. Loves it.

Look out for future pictures of the beauty (the romp, not Jess haha) in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Prada Romper!
