{reunited and it feels so good!}
This week, my oldest friend from life, Shiran, came to visit me here in Paris with our friend Sam. Shiran and I met at JCC preschool in Columbus, Ohio when we were 4, and our families have been close ever since! Shiran met Sam last year on a spring break program is Israel and I got to meet him last year when she came to New York to visit the both of us last summer. The three of us had the best time playing catch up and being silly Americans crawling Parisian streets. They came in to to Paris from Bruges late Monday night where I met them at their hotel by the Arc du Triomphe. I took them to a classic French bistro by the Odéon métro stop, followed by drinks at Le Pub Saint Germain right next door. Unfortunately, I had class all week so dinner+drinks turned out to be our routine for the week.

Tuesday morning, we had breakfast by the Eiffel Tower and met up again after my class for fondue dinner (obv) and running around Montmartre. Took them up to Sacre Coeur and then down to the Moulin Rouge. We were being so funny and inappropriately loud by Paris standards, speaking/attempting to speak French and singing. Good thing we had Sam to protect us from common French creepers.

We then took the métro to the Marais to try out this funky bar that I'd heard about called Andy Wahloo, where we made friends with Alex "Chou Chou de Paris" (loved him) and had the BEST mojitos! We ended the night with crêpes and took really embarrassing photos of me with chocolate all over my face.

Wednesday night, we met at Ladurée on Champs Elysées for an appetizer of dessert before heading to the Eiffel Tower again. We couldn't bring my surprise bottle of champagne up the Tower, so we drank it underneath the Tower before heading up it. After nearly 2 months, that was my first time going up the Eiffel!! Definitely a memorable moment! Afterwards, we went for dinner and drinks in the Bastille and ended the night once more with crêpes and goodbyes.

Yesterday, BU Paris organized a cooking class for a few of us students with one of the BU Paris professors, which conveniently took place in the kitchen in the basement of my building. We learned to cook tomato tartlets, sauteed endive with a béchamel sauce, hot goat cheese salad, and chocolate mousse. SO. YUM. Then last night we tried out this American bar called the Princess and the Frog, which was actually filled with French people. PERF! Finally bet a bunch of French boys--some creepy and some nice--and even got one's number!! Great success! The bar itself was hoppin and definitely a good go-to spot.
{this hot chocolate is the epitome of to die for}
{one happy camper}
Today, Gabba, Olivia and I spent the afternoon checking out some of the vintage stores by Étienne Marcel/Châtelet, followed by a stroll down Rue de Rivoli and famous hot chocolate from Angelina. The hot chocolate there definitely met, and maybe even surpassed, my expectations. It was basically a bar of rich chocolate melted into a cup, topped with whipped cream. To DIE for. Angelina is located across from the Tuileries, so after cocoa, I snooped around the gardens to see where they're setting up the tents for fashion week! Can't wait for fashion week lingering round 2 this week!
I just got home from a Chabad Megillah reading. It's Purim and a friend of mine from NYC, Emily, is also studying here and has been going to Chabad, so she invited me to come along. I am so glad to have gone with. Since being in Paris, the most Jewish things I've done have been going to the Marais for Kosher falafel and avoid pork and shellfish. At school, I go to Chabad for Shabbat about twice a month plus for holidays, and definitely bring more Judaism into my everyday life. It's been really tough in Paris because, even though I have Jewish friends here, they're not at into the religion as I am and aren't so interested in hitting up Chabad with me. After talking with my friends Marco and Emily this week, I have finally figured out ways to bring Judaism back into my life here. Marco and I are planning to find a Conservative synagogue for Shabbat services and I also plan to frequent Chabad with Emily. It turns out that she'd been going to Chabad by herself all this time, while I, on the otherhand, opted against trying to go because I lacked any sort of partner-in-crime. I'm very excited to bring Judaism back into my routine here, as well as to hear and interact with Jews speaking French! Maybe I'll learn some useful phrases and plant some strong Jewish roots here. Wouldn't that be lovely? Anyway, I'm going back to Chabad with Emily tomorrow for Purim round two, and maybe I'll go again for Shabbat next Friday.
This is the last week of classes for the entire semester and we have finals on Friday! I can't even believe how quickly that flew! I wonder if the second half will go by faster or slower. I leave for Italy on Saturday (ONE WEEK!) and will be visiting Rome, Florence and Venice, maybe with a day-trip to Cinque Terre in there somewhere. Then I start my internship when I get back! So so nervous for that. I keep forgetting that it's even coming! Wonder how that will be..... Anyway, lots more to come in the Parisian Adventure of Marisa Rose Morrison. Hopefully I'll have some good fashion week reporting for you all this week!!!
Paix, Amour et Néon,
Marisa
