la vie à paris: déjà un mois?!

Man oh man time is flying here. I can't believe tomorrow I'll have been in Paris for officially one month. 1/4 way through my semester of European magic.... and ONE month until my birthday! I am happy to announce that I will officially be celebrating my 21st in ROME, ITALY, where I plan to spend the day gorging myself on pesto gnocchi and mint-chocolate gelato! Booked my flight with Olivia the other night and will be meeting up with JESSICA WEBBICA AND STEPH HUE for a week of crazy Italian adventures!!! Also on our itinerary: Florence and Venice! Counting down the days!!

In the meantime, I have other travels to look forward to. This weekend, Valentine's weekend, Olivia, Cristina and I will be heading to the land of chocolate (Belgium--Brussels to be exact) to drown our lover-less woes in the stuff. Pretty sweet alternative to snuggling up with a significant other, I'd say! The following weekend we're going to Amsterdam, which I am expecting to be one hell of a trip. Plans include museums, sexy sights, pancakes and posing for photos in oversized yellow clogs. Posts on these adventures to come...

{brought friends to refuge!}

This past weekend, Paris welcomed half of BU's London kids (just my estimation), and I had two of them (my friends Giorgina and Arielle) plus Cristina staying in my room. Slumber party to the max! Four girls + two twin beds = sleeping Lincoln log style. We took our friends to our favorite places: Arc du Triomphe at night, Montmartre to eat at Refuge de Fondus and see Sacre Coeur, local crêpe stands and the Marais for shopping and fallefel. We also discovered an awesome crêperie called Crêperie Suzette in the Marais. DELISH!!!

{lunch with amy and her mom at ladurée champs-elysées' gorgeous bar}

My friend Amy was also in town from London with her mom, which was perfect because I hadn't gotten to spend a lot of time with her in London, as she was in Madrid that weekend. The two of them were in Paris for what seemed like one reason and one reason only: TO SHOP, of course! I was more than happy to accompany them to the original Chanel at 31 Rue Cambon, where we drooled over bags and flats and costume jewelry and nail polish and beaded shift dresses, and saw the steps of Coco Chanel's apartment. (Can't wait to go back for a tour of Chez Coco!) We walked Rue Saint Honoré and down l'Avenue de l'Opera past the Opera House to get to Galeries Lafayette--the most BEAUTIFUL department store in existence! The ceiling is stained glass and the department store is built along the walls of the circular building with the entire center cut out so you can see all of the makeup kiosks below. A true work of art! Oh and how could I forget our lovely lunch at Ladurée?! C'était magnifique! Pumpkin soup with fresh parmesean, croutons and a poached egg, with a rasberries-and-creme dessert. Yummm!! I skipped on the macarons to try something new, as I have definitely had my fair share since I've been here, but made sure that AMags and her mom tried their fabulousness.

So that was my weekend. School is still refusing to give me a break. I had a French grammar exam today and I have an art history presentation tomorrow, which should actually be quite interesting. I love the piece that I'm talking about. It's called Le Bal Bullier by Sonia Delaunay.

Isn't it pretty?? It's an painting of Parisian dance hall called Le Bal Bullier where everyone danced the tango in the 1910s. There's much more to it than that, but it has a great background story. The painting is reallllly long and is on its own wall at the Musée National d'Art Modern (which is the modern art museum in the Pompidou Center). Speaking of which, I had to go to the Pompidou THREE times this week! Twice to do research on the painting and once for a field trip with my art history class on Monday. I ADORE this museum and can't wait to go back and check out the fourth floor, which I didn't get a chance to see, and has the more modern of works. According to Amy's pictures from Paris, it looks incredibly strange in the best way possible.

Okay kiddies... gotta do some Buzz work and go to bed. PRÉSENTATION SUR LE BAL BULLIER DEMAIN ET PLUS DES DEVOIRS!!!

À bientôt et bisoux, mes cheries!

Paix, Amour et Néon,
Marisa
