my life is officially complete.

Okay kids, I can die now. After years and years of obsessing (like legit girl crush crazy in love) I spotted my #1 celeb, Mary-Kate. After I saw the Spice Girls concert last year, I decided that all that was left was MK (Ash as an added bonus). The funny thing is that I don't really care about mainstream celebs. If LC or Jessica Simpson walked down the street, I'd be like, okay cool whatev. I only care about fashion celebs (i.e. my obsession with models) and Mary-Kate.

Here's the run-down: Standing on the corner of 2nd Ave and 10th. My friend Becca points to a group of tiles across the street and tells me that they contain the names of renowned Yiddish actors, one being her family member. I suggest we find her relative's name. As we're looking down, Becca whispers, "Marisa, LOOK UP! Is that Mary-Kate?!" Without a second thought, I instantly recognize my girl crush, style icon of 10 years. She was standing RIGHT in front of us chatting it up with a group of hipster girls (obv). Becca kept peeking around and I tried to keep my cool, which was a great success. I didn't freak out the way I did on Mother's Day when I saw Coco Rocha and Vlada Rosylyakova. Becca managed to snap a photo as well!! Good one Bec!!

She was sooo hippy grunged out and fabulous. She's the one in on the left wearing a purple paisley floor-length cotton dress with sleeves and beat-up black boots. She was also wearing her signature round, John Lennon sunglasses.

Okay wait, not only was MK chillin right in front of our faces, but she was waving goodbye to Jessica Stam!!!! This model spotting list keeps growing and growing!!!

Love New York. Love my life.

today's designer spottings!!

Although I myself eat a Kosher diet, Milk studios and the Meatpacking District really seem to draw the fashion community. (Ok well I think I'm funny....!)

Today at the Uniqlo shoot I spotted Diane von Furstenberg (well, her legs at least) and Erin Fetherston! Let me explain...

Spotting #1: DVF. Her New York roof-top apartment, which just happens to be above her store in Meatpacking, can be viewed from Studio 1 of Milk Studios. AND her walls are floor-to-ceiling windows--aka you can view the action at Chez von Furstenberg! Though I didn't see her whole self, I did see her legs walking around both the living room and bedroom.

(Photos courtesy of my Blackberry)

Spotting #2: Erin Fetherston having major meeting time down on the 2nd floor... took a few minutes to process who that pretty blonde girl was, but I was very excited when it all clicked!! Love herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Okay okay I'll get off Blogger and work on stuff for The Buzz. =(

Marisa

what i'm up to: uniqlo shoot!!

This week on the Chronicles of a Fashion Intern...

I am currently at Milk Studios assisting Sabina, Natasha and Vanessa at the Uniqlo campaign shoot-- very cool stuff! I'd like to mention that yesterday was my first time working at Milk, and damn do they have good food! I've been non-stop pigging out during my downtime. They even had all of those yummy Japanese candy goodies yesterday!! Also very cool is that the campaign features top model Ali Stephens. Sooo gorg!! And Sabina just borrowed my silver rams head bangle bracelet off my wrist to put on Ali for the photos. My bracelet is going to be famous in Japan! Who knows...maybe it will start a trend for silver rams head bangle bracelets...? Ok, back to my delicious lunch!

we keep nyc colorful, even in the greyest weather

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while! I've been soo busy with work, especially working late every night at the rag & bone sample sale. (The last day is tomorrow, so check it out if you haven't been!) On that note, I bought so many goodies at the sale, most notably the black liberty floral silk tank, the silk boyfriend blazer in blue and the blondie leather jacket!! My mom and Amy did some damage as well. The clothes are just oh so irresistible!

Today, my friends and I were supposed to explore Brooklyn, but due to yucky weather, we ventured to the closer destination of SoHo. Before SoHo, Alex, Amy and I made the MaryKate Steinmiller bracelets! I had bought the supplies weeks ago but have been waiting for the perfect time for our arts and crafts sesh.

Aren't they so great???

After bracelet time, we headed over to TopShop, as Amy has been meaning to go for ages! Obviously, they have a dress-up contest to win a free bike, and obviously I can't resist an offer to play dress-up!

I think it's a good look on me, no? I'll let you all know if I win the bike =)

Next stop: Pearl River Mart for cheap kitchenware. I forgot how fun this store is! Every kitschy Asian nick nack you could imagine! After the amount I spent at the sample sale, I had to hold myself back here. I did pick up a box of chocolate panda cookies though.

Next, Alex and I grabbed lunch at this little Cuban restaurant that I've been meaning to try called Cubana Cafe. It was soooo yum! Alex had vegetarian quesadillas and I got the green apple-jicama salad and plantain puree... yummmmm.....

After lunch, we continued to wander around SoHo in search of birthday and Father's Day gifts-- great success! Found something for Amy (can't say!!) and bought a Venus Fly Trap plant for my dad from Evolution. He's totally gunna dig it!

at this point, it's the worst way possible...

I'm sitting in the rain on the corner of mulberry and grand after running around trying to find an I <3 NY shopping bag. I had to ask an unsuspecting tourist if I could please have hers. I am drenched. Ok, time to find the van of people with this bag on my head to shield me from the rain. Wish me luck!

Marisa

i am a fashion slave. but in the best way possible.

Right now I am in a van on my way to Harlem to help as a stylist assistant for Ten Magazine's stylist Sabina Schreder. I'm beginning to wonder how much longer I'll be willing to work as unpaid help.... But anyway, I spent my day yesterday assisting the style-out and helped out as Sabina and co. worked their magic pairing up outrageous pieces from Westwood, Galliano, Versace, etc. with I <3 NY paraphernalia (the shoot is about all things New York--too perfect!!). And Sabina's crew is great! The assistants Natasha and Vanessa are really sweet and down-to-earth, the photog Christian has a great sense of humor and made me feel welcome right off the bat, Alice is the cutest pregnant makeup artist I've ever encountered, and our model Diana is adorable and looks awesome in the clothes (think Gemma Ward + Tanya D.)! It's been so much fun watching experienced people doing what I hope to be doing in the future and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the magic. I'll post pictures of Sabina's adorable kitten and of props and an oversized tutu when I get to my computer tonight. In the meantime, I'll be chillin' in Harlem making fabulous observations to share with all of you.

asian lovin aka byebye allison, hello crazy japanese LV video

Allison and I are spending our last moments together blog surfing (obv) before she jets off to Hong Kong for eight weeks!! We came across this video on Kanye West's blog and thought it was appropriate for both its funky fashion reference and its silly Asian kitsch, perfect to get Allison pumped for her own Asian excursion!! Still, I'm sad to let her go but we'll be reuniting soon enough (b'shana haba'ah--Hebrew courtesy of AJC) when we go to SanFran in August!!!!!!!!!! Alex and I just booked tix to SF and LA!!!!! =)

Another video for you all (if you haven't watched it on Style.com already)-- MJ and Anna Sui reminiscing and testing their knowledge about each other. Loves it.

diy: m&j headband workshop

Yesterday morning I attended a headband class at M&J Trimming with Alex and her high school friend Michelle--despite that I had only slept for three hours (got back from the Dave show wayyy late) and that I was moving into the NYU dorms that afternoon. Needless to say that it was totally worth it!! I highly recommend signing up for one of M&J's Sunday morning classes- they have an embellishing class coming up soon! Call the store for details.

For $20, we got three plain headbands, one funky embellishment and a bottle of glue, plus a 15% discount on all additional purchases! The store's employees taught us how to make bows, glue on rhinestone buttons and make huge cupcake-like flowers, then let us go to town making our own funky headband creations.

Step one: Choose 3 solid headbands

Step two: Pick your free embellishment

Step three: Find some pretty ribbons and things

Step four: Learn from the pros

Step five: Go to work!

Step six: Admire your creations!!

{alex's}

Thanks to M&J for mentioning me on their blog and posting pictures of us ladies in our headband creations!!

A pretty cool way to spend your Sunday morning, huh?

r&b resort love

As I'll be running around all weekend (Misha's birthday party, Dave Matthews in Hartford, headband-making class and moving into the NYU dorms)and will not be able to post anything, I'll leave off for the weekend with a quick, last post.

Reppin' r & b: The resort collection is off the chain. Vogue came in the other day to preview it and I was able to assist at the meeting by dressing the models. Fun!!! Here are some of my fave looks from the collection:

Love the drop-crotch leggings. If only my legs were long and lean enough...

The design team did such a fab job styling the collection. Here's a prime example of their expertise in layering:

I'm a sucker for sequins and turbans--and the silhouette is amazing:

I wish I could post more resort faves but I gotta dash! Time to pick up balloons and cake for the party!!

WWW knows accessories

So as usual, WWW's June Shop the Closet is spot on.

The first item that caught my eye was this pair of small round sunglasses.I've been highly considering this shape lately, as the girls in my office look so damn hip in them. These are also much cheaper than even the discounted Proenza's on Gilt the other day. Though I promised myself to refrain from shopping, I might not be able to resist heading over to TopShop on my day off on Monday... eek!!

Also in this editorial is the rag & bone arrow belt in my fave liberty floral print!I immediately sent this image up to PR to make sure that they noted our mention!! Loves it.

Even MObama and NYMag are feeling the Neon Necklace Love

Just saw this on The Cut and obvs had to post it.

And for the record, I too love... Tom Binns.

Peace, Love and Neon,
Marisa

Who knew a.b.c. gum could be a fashion statement?

Not only is this Chewed Gum Necklace from Refinery29 the kitchiest, funniest little necklace, but it's also wildly appropriate, having just watched Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist for the first time the other night. If you haven't seen it, in which case I recommend that you do so immediately, you know that the character's night includes the saga of a piece of gum that is placed on every surface (including disgusting toilet water) and shared by various characters. Maybe Nora should consider buying this necklace for her drunk bff Caroline in honor of their night of memorable shenanigans.

And speaking of shenanigans, my best friend Misha just started a blog to chronicle her own. Check it out!!

Ok, back to rag & boning.

The Buzz Fashion Shoot Faves

So as many of you know, I am one of the Co-Founders/Co-Editors-in-Chief of The Buzz, Boston University's new student lifestyle magazine that is currently a work in progress. A few months ago, we had our first fashion shoot for the mock issue, which turned out to be so amazingly beautiful! The reason I mention it now is because today, my co-editor Allie and I had our first meeting in a while and started to select some of the photos to use in the issue.

Here are a couple of my favorites that will probably appear in the mock-up:

Doesn't Martina look out of this world?? I could not have asked for a better model! The photographs were taken by our absolutely fabulous photographer Brooks Canaday and styled by myself and my wonderful fashion staff. More photos from the shoot can be found on Brooks' website in the Fashion Gallery.

These pictures make me so proud and get me so excited to print our mock-up!! Look out for updates about the magazine in the fall!!

Marisa
