what i'm up to: paris, here i come!!

Yes, that's right... yours truly has finally gotten the BIG NEWS!! I've been accepted to Boston University's Paris Internship Program for the Spring '10 semester!! Found out this afternoon. While I was fasting for Yom Kippur. If I had been freaking out just a bit more, I'm sure that I would have passed out from exhaustion. So clearly I am SO STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that it's official, I don't have to hold back from posting more pre-Paris plans. (Like I actually held back before today? I sometimes struggle between superstition and excitement.)

First step: How to dress in Paris?? What do I have, what do I need, and how am I going to pull all of the looks together? (This is EXTREMELY important, people!! If any city in the deserves a planned wardrobe, it is Paris.)

Here are some photos of some fashionable ladies in Paris-worthy looks taken over the past year or two from Style.com, Garance Doré and The Sartorialist. They will serve as my initial inspiration for my own Parisian look.

Have:
  • Perfect chic winter coat
  • Rag & Bone leather jacket
  • Whimsical floral printed jacket
  • Blazers galore
  • Go-to black wool Phillip Lim skirt
  • Printed dresses
  • Great jeans
  • Pretty and fun blouses
  • Yummy cotton t-shirts, both printed and basic
  • Leggings for comfortable travel
  • New black high-top Converse
  • Chanel black patent leather flats and oxfords
  • Heeled grey suede booties
  • Sexy black heels
  • Tall brown leather vintage Ferragamo boots
  • Statement jewelry and accessories
  • My trusty Ray-Ban aviators
  • Beanies and berets, both practical and decorative (blue sequins!)
  • Scarves, both practical and decorative
  • Assortment of handbags and clutches
  • Thick black tights
  • Lots o' makeup and nail polish

Need:
  • "Pardon My French" tee from Urban
  • Stripes!! long-sleeved and short-sleeved, sweaters and cotton tees
  • Black leather boots (see post on the amazing Tory Burch boots)
  • New chestnut lace-up mocc boots (mine are so dead)
  • Huge cross-shoulder roomy leather bag
  • Dark grey knit stockings
  • New camera (this one is wishful thinking...)
  • A super-cute umbrella for those rainy Parisian days
  • And once I get there...a bike!!
I don't think that's too much to ask for! I already have most of what I need, which is really great. I think if I could, I'd pack my stuff up right now and head to the airport. Counting down the days.......!!!!!!!!

want this now: chanel for the frugal

We fashion lovers are not always the wealthiest people, so you can imagine the pain of not being able to afford that new Prada bag or a pair of kick ass Alex Wang booties. This urge to own a piece of our favorite iconic fashions can be satiated when someone decides to turn a beloved designer piece into something affordable to the masses. Case in point: this tshirt from ShopNastyGal, aptly named the Coco Sunglasses Tee. Chanel sunnies come with a hefty price tag, but this shirt is only $58! Plus, these glasses were made iconic by my fashion muse Mary-Kate Olsen- all the more reason to buy the shirt!

what i'm up to: my fashion week(end)

Finally made it back to Boston after an UNBELIEVABLE weekend of being in the midst of full-blown fashion week action. Celebs, fashion celebs, models, parties, drinks galore, freebees, the works! Here’s the recap…

Thursday consisted of assisting the rag & bone design team with final prep for Friday’s show and hitting up Fashion’s Night Out, where Rebecca and I scored our bottle of limited edition Chanel Jade nail polish, indulged in free food and drinks, and met Phillip Lim at his SoHo store! Not too shabby...!!

And did I mention that I saw the Autumn '09 issue 10 Magazine with the I Love NY shoot in it-- and I was credited as a fashion assistant?!?!?!!!! Monumental occasion in the life of Marisa Rose Morrison, right there!!!
Anyway, Friday was show time and I got to the rag & bone office by 8 AM. I spent the first part of my day running between the office, the show venue and the belt manufacturer, which was really lame because it was raining and IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab. Needless to say, the rest of my day made up for that 100-fold! Being backstage at the show was incredible. I loved feeling the energy and seeing how everyone prepared for the show. There were professionals doing everything from guarding the doorways to dressing the models, so we interns just got to observe and lend the occasional hand.

Sasha, Lily, Freja, Kasia, Kim Noorda, Magdalena and more were all there in all of their long lanky glory! Sasha was wearing this all-black gettup complete with a black shawl over her head, which totally made her look like this beautifully haunting dementor of sorts. Caught Lily and Freja chilling in the back, laughing and smoking cigarettes.

And the male models were out of this world gorgeous--and quite friendly and funny at that!

When it came time for the show, I was able to go out to the runway to watch--and I even got a seat!! I sat right behind the Voguettes, including Anna and Grace right in the center, and got to say hi to some of the editors at Teen Vogue who were also right by me. Across the way sat Stam (who was not walking in the show) and Jessica Szor, who both looked like the cool girls in class.

The show was stunning, thanks to the rag & bone design team and stylist Tabitha Simmons, who so perfectly layered the military inspired pieces and classic rag & bone basics into wearable, yet impeccably stylish, looks. Check it out on style.com!!

Following the show, we interns stuck with the r&b team and went to the Brass Monkey for food and drinks to celebrate, then hit up the official after party in the basement of Simyone. Lots of dancing and silly antics ensued. Then I stopped by the unofficial after-after party and quickly decided it was time for bed. I was only running on 4 1/2 hours of sleep, people!!

I spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with my mom--mainly acting as her personal stylist and taking her to Bloomie's twice in two days. It's all good because she paid me in new makeup for my services (I had lost my make up bag at Brass Monkey and I guess she felt bad).

Now it's back to school in Boston and back to real life. Time to focus on getting good grades, working on The Buzz, and making some dinero for my semester abroad. But don't think I won't still be posting fabulously fashionable news, events and coveted items... We have a whole month left of fashion shows galore!!

want this now: parlez-vous français?

I've been waiting since mid-summer for this men's t-shirt from Urban to go on sale, and the day has finally come! I've been fantasizing about cutting off the sleeves and turning it into a nighttime top pour mes nuits parisiennes extraordinaires. A great conversation starter, non? I'm thinking it will be my "félicitations" gift to myself if I get accepted to the program. Should find out in the next couple weeks...!!!

want this now: confessions of a sockaholic

The Neon Tea Party's prediction for fall's must-have accessory: SOCKS!! Yes, socks, ladies and gentleman (mmhm Hemal--who by the way was wearing very lovely olive and navy argyle socks tonight!). I saw this three-pack of socks from J. Crew a few weeks ago when I was flipping through the new catalog and, seeing as they are neon, I obviously fell for them. They look soo much cuter in the catalog than online, fyi. Anyway, they had slipped my mind a bit until I had the sudden (yet common) urge to play dress-up and I decided to pair fun socks with my black Chanel oxfords and grey suede booties. Unfortunately, my cutest workable pair say I Love NY all over them and did not fly with my roommates, so now I turn back to the perfect hot pink-fluorescent yellow-turquoise trio of ankle socks, which will so wonderfully fit with the look that I'm trying to achieve. In the meantime, I've got the I Love NY's and a grey pair with pink butterflies which are on my feet right this very moment!

How do you feel about the sock-heel or sock oxford combo? Ever tried it before?

(Yes, I know this post is at almost 3 AM, but I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't do it now! Teehee.)

Okay, off to bed!

Peace, Love and Neon SOCKS,
Marisa

want this now: mint chocolate nails?

The other day, my friend Jessie and I met up in Harvard Square for the afternoon--which included a trip to the ice cream shop (duhh!). She ordered mint oreo in a sugar cone and explained to me that she used to order mint chocolate chip and pistachio ice creams because that classic pastel green was her favorite color. This conversation reminded me of both the room that I had as a baby, which was painted in that very color, and my own love of mint chip ice cream. Consequently, I felt a sudden resurgence of my fondness for the yummy minty hue.

Lucky for me, as I mentioned two posts back, Chanel will be offering manis at FNO in their new Jade color, and I'm more excited than ever to score myself a bottle!! As I've been back at school for a week and attempting to get into the swing of things, painting my nails has certainly not been a priority of mine. And all of the unpacking and cleaning? Forget about it! But now that that's all done and I'm back in action, I can paint my nails the color of Jessie's and my childhood any time!!

What do you think of the color?? Have any great new colors on your nail polish wish list that you'd like to share with the class??

Peace, Love and Neon,
Marisa

employer news: bravo r&b!

Oh rag & bone, always making me proud! Or better yet, doing great things that make me proud for having worked for them. Check out this raving article from WWD on the advance of the brand, which highlights the recent opening of rag & bone's third and largest New York store as well as the creation of its diffusion lines Rag & Bone/JEAN and Rag & Bone/SHIRT. Yours truly had the honor of changing the buttons on the samples of the Rag & Bone/JEAN skinnies and getting a sneak peek at the styles of oxford button-downs in the Rag & Bone/SHIRT collection. Really great stuff!!

Looking forward to the r&b show!! T-minus 1 week until I return to NY for Fashion Week!!

Peace, Love and Neon,
Marisa
